Meet the North Carolina Artist

About Me

Hello, my name is Kaz Thibodeau, I am a portrait painter / artist, currently living in Louisburg, North Carolina. I am now taking commissions for adult, child and pet portraits.

My painting adventure began when I was a boy at the fun age of 12. I don’t know if that was a fun age for everyone, but it sure was a memorable and happy time for me.

It was my close and dear friend, Betty-Anne Chuna, who first invited me to join her, in an oil painting class. These were very informal lessons taught in the living room from one of our local elderly artist. I don’t remember her name, but for the purpose of this bio, I’ll call her Mrs. B.
Mrs. B’s living room was transformed into a classroom by setting up four card tables. Each card table sat four students comfortably. We used table-top easels, and we were able to purchase all our materials from Mrs. B

Mrs. B didn’t have a lesson plan for the group to follow, instead, everyone did their own thing. You basically selected an image from a large stack. Each image was a copy of a painting, many came from old calendars, some came from magazines. I can still remember my first painting, an autumn scene of an open field, a small grouping of trees, and a puffy cloud filled blue sky. After that first experience, I knew I was hooked for life.

I would have to say, my favorite type of paintings to work on are, human portraits, adult and child, as well as pet portraits, as I see our pets being a part of the family. For me, my dogs are almost human, and I can only imagine, most pet owners feel the same about their pet.

When I occasionally need a break from portraiture, I enjoy painting landscapes. I’m all geared up to adventure outdoors and do a little plein air painting. I’m currently looking for other artist in the Raleigh NC area to be part of a plein air group.
By all means, please email me if you’re interested at Kaz@artworksbykaz.com
