Little Church, an Architectural Watercolor Raleigh NC

March 4, 2020 / 14x11 watercolor / Raleigh Landscape Artist

OK, here is another image I captured from my cousin Janette's FB photos. Janette posted this one back in 2013, but didn't mention where this church was located. NC has thousands of churches of all sizes and shapes, 15 churches, right here in Louisburg.

I'll let this church launch my study of churches. It's a good subject to paint. The orange tree here is way over worked, but still worth a post. This is the second time I painted an architectural subject, and have decided, I really like painting buildings.

Another mistake on this painting is the lack of contrast between the church steeple and the sky, they both share the same value. I'm still learning that it's ok to change what I see in an image for the good of the painting. In this case, it would have been better to darken the grey sky a bit, allowing the steeple to pop a little. That would have also helped to create depth in the overall scene. Lesson learned, move forward.
