Painted Portrait of Travis in oils / Raleigh NC

Because I’m not sure what my painting style is right now, finding and trying new approaches is an ongoing process. I’m Always on the quest, for good portrait painting tutorials, and I found an excellent one from portrait painter, Joshua LaRock. Joshua’s tutorial is three hours long demonstrating the start and completion of a portrait.

After watch this tutorial, I felt confident and couldn’t wait to start my next portrait. I went back to the watercolor I had painted of Travis and decided to paint a new portrait in oils. This time of course, I would use some of the new techniques I’ve learned from Joshua’s tutorial.

This painting took about a week, as I painted in layers just as Joshua demonstrated. In the end, I was so pleased with the results. The likeness in the oil painting was so much better than the watercolor. I’m now feeling I’m making some progress in my art.
